How did you get started in the industry?
22 years ago, I was exiting the world of social services with the goal of getting back into the corporate world, which is where I started. I wasn’t looking for a mortgage advisor position but my partner at the time worked for a broker and introduced me. The rest is history, as they say.
What’s your background?
I have a Bachelor of Business degree from University of Technology, Sydney Australia, with a focus on management, marketing, and finance. I worked as a management trainee with an Australian company until I graduated, then ended up as a product then marketing manager at a midsize Australian company. We manufactured building products and automotive products, and I was responsible for Australia and New Zealand. After an early trip to the US to do a year at Oregon State University, I married an American woman and we moved back to Australia. After 4 years, she got homesick and moved back to the US. I followed about 10 months later.
What are your specialty area(s) (VA, FHA, Refi, etc.)?
All agency loans, purchase specialist, strategic planning, credit repair and counseling, proactive problem solving.
Why Options Financial Residential Mortgage?
I was impressed with the vision of founder Joel Morgan, along with working with several others I know, admire, respect and would call kindred spirits. Add to this the programs and strategies that Joel has devised to help originators be successful and consistent, and this is the closest example of synergy personified that I have yet to experience in my decades-long career in the mortgage industry.
What would you say is the most fulfilling part of what you do?
It is helping people to realize one of their main dreams: home ownership and the independence that brings to young first-time home buyers, who finally realize they are out on their own and making it in the world. Being a part of this process and educating them before, during and after the realization of their dream and seeing the look of joy and pride on their faces at closing is priceless.
How would you describe the role of education in the process?
Educating the client/buyer is paramount for a successful transaction – but more importantly, for a future relationship.
When you’re not working, what are some of your favorite pastimes?
Spending time with my wife, gardening, travel, culinary delights, and music.
