Moving and Buying a Home
Moving can be a chaotic process. Packing up everything you own and reorganizing it into an unfamiliar location is a challenge. It is easy to get lost in the mix. To help you sort through the multitude of actions that take place when moving, we have created an awareness checklist:
Pack your belongings. This will take a lot of boxes and a lot of time. Give yourself time to sort through your things and don’t be afraid to part with that which no longer serves a purpose. Don’t forget to plan for a storage garage or a moving truck if you will need one.
Give notice. Make sure that you have allotted yourself the proper time for moving. Give the people moving into your old home, or your landlord, notice so that you are not required to move out before your new home is ready.
Take care of utilities. Remember to stop the utilities at your current home and establish them for your new home.
Prep your new home. This means cleaning, painting, carpeting, furnishing, installing appliances, re-keying your locks, resetting garage door codes and repairing anything that needs to be fixed. Don’t forget to update your address information as well!
Anticipate delay. There are about 42 parties involved in the finance and transaction of your sale. Any one of those parties could potentially cause a delay in the closing of your new home. So plan accordingly so you will not introduce stress into your move.
